Late Christmas Post

new-years-eve-angelfather-xmaswillowI just found a couple of photos in my camera which I took over Christmas and had almost forgotten about … so this is rather a late Christmas post. The top one is of the Christmas Tree Angel, bought from Windsor many years ago and which I love.  The bottom photo is of one of our Christmas guests, Willow, who was extremely well behaved during her stay (as was her owner!).

Americans Who Tell the Truth

wendell_berry

Amongst all the Christmas cards adorned with holly, Christmas trees and snowmen sits this card from America with a message we can’t ignore.

“The most alarming sign of the state of our society now is that our leaders have the courage to sacrifice the lives of young people in war but have not the courage to tell us that we must be less greedy and less wasteful”

Wendell Berry

I’m in the process of looking through the whole series of portraits and quotations of “Americans Who Tell the Truth” and am drawn, in particular, to Rosa Parks and Chief Joseph.

Thank you Carol

Christmas Decorating At Last!

At last a bit of progress has been made on the home Christmas decoration front …. what with going to Devon and having the lurgy (is that the right spelling – what a strange word?) I feel as though I am a week behind.  The tree decoration should be a pleasure but seems to have been a bit of a chore … oh well it’s done now although, looking at the photo, there seems to be a “decoration gap” at the front.

The vase on the window sill has a red stripe and so it seemed apt to fill it with leftover red and gold baubles!

The shelf over the old gas fire is new … Mr Dancing put it up yesterday …it cost the princely sum of £8 so it’s an economic solution for the time being, compared to the Bath stone fireplaces (£1200+) I had been looking at before gas prices were hoiked by 50%.

I’m off to put the kettle on for a cuppa now … I’m feeling weary.

December Wednesday

Had a potter around with the camera – here’s a few Christmassy things in the house … the Christmas card tree is looking VERY higgledy piggledy and needs to be sorted out … but then again that’s just how it is on this Wednesday afternoon.
