My “Spitalfields Life” book, inscribed by The Gentle Author arrived in the post this morning together with a little card which said:-
“Over the coming days, weeks, months and years I am going to write every single day and tell you about my life here in Spitalfields at the heart of London. How can I ever describe the exuberant richness and multiplicity of culture in this place to you? This is both my task and delight”.
If you have never read Spitalfields Life , then I urge you to do so.
I so agree with the comment of a reviewer on the back of the book
This book of Spitalfields Life will do more to celebrate the people of London than all the Olympic billions.
If only I could write half as well as The Gentle Author, or indeed, Mr Longshanks Scribbler – never mind – the joy is in the reading.
It looks like a very interesting book, I’ll have to get a copy.
What a wonderful time for the book to be out. I hope the Olympic billions get word of it and buy their own copy.
