Earth Hour – Saturday 28 March 2009

Thank you Nick over at Nick’s Bytes for your reminder about  Earth Hour

From their website:

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of ONE BILLION people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour and join the world for Earth Hour.

Saturday 28 March   8:30 – 9:30 pm

Shed Life

aussie-shed

summerhouse

Last August demolition man removed the old rotting wooden shed which was sandwiched between the garden wall and the house.

Due to my indecision, snowstorms, bad weather and other factors, it took a while to order a new shed. I was always concerned that we had a petrol mower in a wooden shed next to the house (Guy Fawkes Night and all that) so we decided to buy a metal one.  It’s an Aussie-made tin shed so I’m delighted …. I need to find one of those kangaroo warning signs!

After a re-jig, we can now access shed city. The potting shed is sorted and old book cases have been moved into the Aussie one. Due to general house re-organisation we tried to get a single bed in there too but without luck.

So, now there’s a bed in the summerhouse and, as I had a headache,  I had a little sleep in there only yesterday afternoon – it’s a lovely retreat!

Happy Birthday Mr Dancing!

I’ve just heard from Elaine at Bloomin’ Myrtle that she has now received the Mystery Giveaway … a couple of wash/dishcloths and a composting book which, I feel sure, has Monty Don on the front cover!
