September Blogathon

Well, I did it.  This is my 30th consecutive post for September.  I set myself an informal challenge, inspired by Dolly Dollop to post on the blog every day.  I started off well, then hit a state of “Why on earth am I blogging at all, let alone blogging each day?”   I had some very supportive comments and so thought I’d pick myself up, dust myself down, keep calm and carry on!

It’s been the usual pattern of doing something new.  I start with great gusto, enthusiasm and good intentions, all goes well and then the self-questioning sets in and, at that point, it all seems so much more tricky.  Once I got past “the wall” it was a lot easier.

Why AM I blogging?  It’s mainly to keep in touch with friends and family, to eventually document all the genealogical information I have amassed and to write a daily journal of sorts.  As a bonus, I’ve met some delightful people .

Anyway, before I ramble on interminably, I would just like to post this very special award for Dolly Dollop….. Thanks C!

Potfest

Oooh, I nearly forgot to mention that, on Friday, DD and I went to the Potfest, a three day Ceramics Festival held at the showground just outside Frome. It was a PERFECT day for it.

There were some wonderful pieces there and an amazing bunch of creative potters and ceramicists.

I bought a pinch pot from Ian Harris, who uses objects such as beach pebbles, sea shells, seed pods and clusters of garden bulbs as initial inspiration. In the photo, the pot I bought is on the bottom left. His inspiration for this came from the oyster shells he finds in his garden, left by the soldiers who were at Corfe Castle, by which he lives.

The big pots in the picture have landscapes engraved on them – if you look carefully you can see fields and hills – and the sea (on the pot on the right) – the view from his favourite pub.

Cobwebs and Conkers

Early this morning I ventured out in the garden in my dressing gown.  The air was damp, misty and cool – my mission was to take a photo of this delicate, lacy cobweb.

Back in the warmth, I remembered the conkers I collected last week .  I’d left them on the shelf and the outer shells have shrunk to reveal the glossy brown chestnuts inside.  The little jug is a 49p bargain from Oxfam. I had intended to get it for the café, but I like it too much, so it might stay here.

Paul Newman

I just read the news about Paul Newman …. what a lovely man he was.
